Whilst on the search for the new and exciting places to ride across the world, every now and then we stumble on something pretty awesome and this time we felt we’d share it with you all. Please say hi to our newly discovered (and now very close) mates from Hats for the Hill. These guys let you design and create your own beanies, you choose the design, you choose the colours and they make it for you. Shortly after you press the order button, a neat little box arrives for you through the post with your very own hat inside. What better way to keep your noggin warm when on your own custom made holiday with wasabi than by having your own custom made hat?

We gave it a shot and I think you’ll all agree, the wasabi beanie of 2009/2010 looks slick:

the big launch party

We promised to keep you posted on it..and here are the details. We are having a small get together to celebrate the launch of wasabi (any excuse to try and brighten up January in the UK). So before we head to the slopes for the rest of the winter, please come by The White House in Clapham on 21st January for some drinks, music and good times!! So good, in fact, we’ve even created a Facebook event page for it. It would also be a great chance for you to meet the team and discover more about what we can offer you.

We have a guest DJ set from our good friend DJ Chronikal, check out his myspace to listen to his tunes.

The event is strictly a guestlist event so please drop us a line on hello@wasabitravel.com with your name and anyone else you wish to bring along.

Hope those of you in the UK are suriving the current freeze, and those of you on the slopes are enjoying the white stuff. We look forward to joining you out there- after one epic night in London that is.

wasabi- the big launch

“Snow? In London!” I hear you exclaim. Yes, it’s true it finally came today- though not quite in enough abundance to get us all donning the ski gear and busting out some tricks in Hyde Park! But that is not the only newsworthy story for this week…no no something much more exciting has occurred….that’s right, wasabi has officially launched!

After 14 months of blood, sweat, tears, sleep deprivation, periodic baldness and a not insignificant amount of beer consumption, we finally have it ready for you all to see and enjoy. The coding goblins have been hard at work designing, creating and testing my.wasabi, and now it’s time for them to head for a yuletide schnapps while you guys start to get to grips with it.

my.wasabi is here to help you explore the world of powder skiing and boarding, discover what is out there, design your own adventure and then we’ll help you make it happen! So go and have a play with it and then, when you’re ready, send your adventure through to us (by activating it in your shiny new my.wasabi account we will create for you in the process) and we’ll help you make it happen.

The big launch party will be happening soon, location and date still tbc, we’ll keep you posted on that and we look forward to seeing you there (or failing that then on the slopes this season).

So what’s a wasabi concept?

Well, we’ve been thinking. We think it’s time to start driving your imagination a little, open your eyes to the what’s out there and, hopefully, convince you to look beyond the grotty self catered apartment that ambitiously claims to be in Courchevel 1850 whilst in reality is hidden among a collection of run down buildings at the bottom of the mountain, and most likely closer to Calais than any chairlift. We say “no more!” to that, wasabi are about to change things!

Here in concepts we hope to tempt you with a few of the gems we have hidden up our sleeves, some unique ideas that will treat you to a “proper” winter adventure, and will help change the way you see and experience the mountains forever (cue inspiring picture of someone riding fresh untouched powder):

Now, we’re not about to give away all our secrets (where’s the fun in spoiling the surprise before you’ve had the chance to explore and discover it for yourself?). But, we are prepared to whet your appetite with a few examples of just how much you really can do out there- both on and off the slopes.
